Over the last decade or so, we’ve noticed that customers are often out of their depth when implementing software projects. They have no option but to concede to the vendor on most matters as they lack the technical expertise to vet the vendor activity. In the past, we have successfully performed an unconventional “advocate” or “champion” role, where we take the time to fully understand the customer requirements and then utilise our software background to ensure that the vendor is acting, as is practical, in the customer’s best interest. This immediately provides a sense of comfort to customers, mitigates short and long term issues, reduces cost and ensures that the deliverable is as close as possible to what the customer needs (rather than what’s convenient for the vendor to deliver).
